Introduction to XC flying

Everyone wants to be a cross country sky god, but you have to start swomewhere! Once you’ve got the hang of thermalling and got some SIV experience, we’ll start introducing you to the joys of XC flying.
In between flying cross country and building up airtime, we’ll have lectures and briefings on the weather and XC routes to help you start to build your XC skills.
We’ll be covering:
  • Leaving the hill – where to go next
  • Landing out
  • Mountain weather
  • Observation
  • Route planning
  • Instruments and other XC kit
  • XC decision making
  • Flight analysis
  • Thermal sources and triggers
  • Inversion busting

We have a low ratio of pilots to guides (3:1 or better) to make sure you have maximum input, can learn as much as possible from the week and clock up some real XC distance.
