Terms and Conditions for flying tuition

See our Privacy Notice for full details.

Payment

Payment for any of our vouchers and courses can be made via our website with credit card, debit card, BACS or Paypal:  Over the phone with credit card, debit card or cheque: In person at our shop with credit card, debit card, cheque or cash.

Cancellation of your order and Refunds

If you have bought a voucher or course from us via telephone, post or through our website, you will have fourteen working days in which to request a refund. This must be in writing or by e- mail; we do not accept cancellations by phone.  After the fourteen days has elapsed no refund is due. On notification of your wish to cancel and the return, at your cost of any vouchers or course confirmation paperwork, we will issue a full refund of the purchase price, to the person who made the payment, within 30 days. However, if you have booked a date for your first flight, or indeed taken your day, within fourteen days of purchase, then no refund is possible.

Vouchers, tandem flights, one day introductions and courses, combined EP/CP courses, discounted packages, and complete packages, are non-refundable after the 14 day period mentioned above.

We cannot be held responsible for your change in personal circumstances, such as relocation; change of mind or change of relationship, at any time. These are post contractual events, over which we have no control, and they are not grounds for refund.

(Also see info under ‘Health and Medical’)

Delivery

Delivery of vouchers, by Royal Mail standard delivery, will be included in the price. Any other delivery methods requested will be charged to the customer.

Vouchers and courses

All Sussex Paragliding one day vouchers, tandem flights and one day introductions are valid for 9 months from the date of purchase, except for special offer and Christmas vouchers which are valid for 6 months only and redeemable on weekdays only. (Also see info under ‘Time extensions.’) All courses are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. All vouchers, tandem flights and courses must be paid in full before you fly. It is recommended that you book your day’s flying with us as soon as possible after purchase. Weekday only vouchers, including special offer vouchers can be upgraded to include weekend dates at an additional cost. Bank holidays count as weekend days. Due to the weather dependent nature of paragliding, it is not unusual to have your day postponed, sometimes more than once! It is the responsibility of the participant to ensure that the activity is taken before the expiry of the voucher and that a course is started in time to complete it within 12 months. A one day voucher can be transferred to another person, provided you let us know their details, the voucher number and date of purchase. A course of 5 days or more cannot be transferred if you have already started the course.  The validity of the voucher and all our relevant terms and conditions will apply to the third party.

The starting time of a day’s flying may vary according to the anticipated weather conditions. You will be made aware of the exact time. We cannot accommodate late arrivals and you will forfeit your day (see info under ‘Postponement). Please be prepared to start early or finish late. We can teach anytime during the hours of daylight. A flying ‘day’ may vary in length, but we attempt to maximise every moment on the hill and if we complete the expected tasks early, then it is time for tea!

 Time extensions

Provided you have booked a day’s flying tuition with us on at least 5 occasions before the last month of validity of your voucher/tandem flight/one day introduction, and each time it has been has been cancelled by us, we will extend the expiry date for 3 months, free of charge. After this extended period of validity, one further extension can be bought for 3 months for £30.
If you have NOT booked a day’s flying tuition on at least 5 occasions before the last month of your voucher’s validity, it can be extended for a further 3 months from the date of expiry, on payment of £30 BEFORE the voucher expires. You may revalidate twice only. You cannot extend the life of a voucher once it is already out of date.  Remember, if you really can’t see yourself using your day’s voucher within its validity, you can transfer it to someone else for the remainder of the period. (See info under ‘Vouchers and courses’.)

Postponement

If you wish to change the date of your booking you must give us at least 48 hours notice by telephone or email.  Failure to notify us within 48 hours of your arranged date, or simply not turning up, will mean that you forfeit your day’s flying. There will be no refund or alternative offered.

Age limit

At Sussex Paragliding the minimum age for solo flying is 16 years old. If the student is 16-18 years old, they need to be accompanied by their parent or a responsible adult. For tandem flights the minimum age is also 16 years old and the student needs to be accompanied by their parent or guardian. The upper age limit for solo and tandem flying is 65, unless specifically agreed with our instructors (please email info@flysussex.com for more information).

Health

You must be medically fit and reasonably active. If in doubt, consult your GP.

You should let us know of any pre-existing medical conditions which may affect your activity, but ultimately, it is up to you to decide on your own capabilities.
If you are unable to use your voucher/course because you are pregnant, we will extend the validity period by 6 months from the baby’s due date provided that, before your voucher/course expiry date, you contact us in writing or by email and supply us with a copy of a MATB1 (obtainable from 26 weeks of pregnancy) relating to your pregnancy.

In the event that you contact us to cancel the remaining days of a course, for medical reasons, we will require you to supply us with such written medical evidence of your inability to continue to learn to paraglide, as we may request. At least one month before the end of your course’s validity, you must supply a doctor’s certificate showing that you were unfit to fly and will remain unfit for the duration of the validity period. If you cannot provide medical evidence, you will forfeit your remaining days of tuition.

We reserve the right to refuse to teach anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or anyone we feel is mentally or physically unsuited to the activity. The minimum weight for all flying is 7 stone (45 Kg).

Cancellation by Sussex Paragliding

Paragliding is a weather dependent sport and unfortunately we have no control over the weather. If we consider it an unsuitable day to fly, we will cancel the day’s teaching. Sometimes this happens at very short notice. If the weather conditions during the session become unsafe to fly, your flying may be shortened or postponed. We will not be held responsible for any travel or accommodation costs, nor any expenses incurred if we have had reasonable grounds to postpone or cancel the flying.

Insurance

We are a British Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association (BHPA) registered school. As such, we have limited professional liability insurance. All our flying customers are issued with temporary membership of the BHPA. This gives them third party insurance. If you require personal accident insurance (to include paragliding) please arrange this in advance or with us on the day of your booking. If you would like further information, please contact us at flysussex.com, or visit www.bhpa.co.uk

If you have purchased a complete package (this is comprised of tuition and new equipment), you have essentially purchased credit for future tuition and glider purchase.
