SIV October – Oludeniz
Is it for you?
Do you want to be able to safely fly in thermals? Do you want to be able to control your glider if you have to get out of the way quickly? Do you want to be able to get down quickly when the conditions change?
The answer is obviously “yes” which is why doing an SIV course should be on every pilot’s list!
You don’t have to have clocked up loads of hours to start learning how to be safer on your glider. You just need to be able to launch and land safely in different conditions without radio guidance.
About the course
We’ve developed our SIV programme over the years so you can build the skills you’ll need when flying out in the real world. It’s basically the most fun way there is to become a safer pilot! The manoeuvres fall into three broad categories: Understanding and using the glider’s energy, dealing with instability and getting out of tricky situations.
We start with dynamic turns to learn more about your glider’s limits, energy and proper pitch control. We’ll do as many collapses as it takes for you to be ready to deal with them when they happen in a thermal. Spirals and collision avoidance turns will get you ready to get out of trouble. Those that are ready for it and want to progress further can do full stalls and start working towards acro manoeuvres.
We do all this in a progressive way designed so you have the knowledge and skills at the end of the course to put it into action when you need it. For those that have done an SIV or two before, the course is, of course, adaptable.
We start with a briefing and kit inspection. Weather allowing, we’ll then have an orientation flight followed by 8 SIV flights, and use any remaining time for thermalling and free flying.
The closest airport is Dalaman. Turkish Airlines, TUI, Pegasus, Jet 2, SunExpress (Lufthansa/Turkish Airlines budget airline), BA and Easyjet all fly direct from Gatwick and other London Airports.
We can arrange transfers from Dalaman for £15-£20 per person each way (shared with other members of the group). A private taxi is £40.
We will be staying at the Magic Tulip Beach Hotel, a lovely 3* hotel very close to the beach and our landing zone. When you book the course you get access to our special rate with the hotel.
You can stay at another hotel in Oludeniz, but please check before you book that it is within walking distance to the seafront and town centre.
